Biography

Born and raised in Saigon, Vietnam, first-born child of an electrical engineer father and an accountant mother, I have been in love with drawing and animation for an entire life.  I spent most of the times as a child playing video games, reading comic books and watching cartoons, which have been my main inspirations ever since. My inconspicuously-detailed drawings with angular, sharp, rough lines with stylized colors are influenced by Hayao Miyazaki’s realistic and delicate films, along with Disney’s scratchy-stylized outline from 101 Dalmatians. Raucous yet comprehensive is how I define my art.

My love for art is not for drawing only, but also for bringing life into my characters, which was the reason I decided to be an animator after finishing high school. I'm very interested in facial expressions.  Reading psychological research about human’s behaviors and sentiments is one of my habits. I also learn from taking notes and paying attention carefully to one’s emotion while communicating. I firmly believe that one must have fully understood others' specific emotion before being able to recreate it via animation. My main goal is to be able to create an animated feature which can touch people’s hearts. Laughter is not my only aim but also tears, depression, and happiness. I have big love for fantasy and magic; however, I prefer doing an animation about daily life because I believe life is a miracle; therefore, I want to capture every beautiful moment of this beautiful life to my work with my own experiences.

Aside from my love for animation, I also enjoy traveling.  I'ms inspired by different cultures and customs, which bring more depth to my perspective. My ambition is to make an animated series about each country’s culture to connect the world. Besides from many things mentioned above; I would spend most of my free time with my old film camera and my beloved 17-strings zither.
